Two mimic style characters who act more like game play modes were introduced named Shadow and Marionette. In Vampire Savior (known in the west as Darkstalkers 3), the turn based round system was dropped and a stock gauge system, where the winning players life bar is not reset after winning a match. Some characters even have the ability to crawl or walk while crouching and others can hover in air. Notably, Darkstalkers adds new features such as air blocking, chain combos and ES attacks. CPU opponents appear in different primary default color schemes (their alternate colors from the original Darkstalkers, now selectable by pressing Medium Punch), while all the background stages from Vampire Savior received new colors.

The game play is the same as with Night Warriors, though slightly tweaked so that the characters play similar to their appearance in Vampire Savior it also features the double-health bar system from the aforementioned game.Ĭhanges were made to accommodate the added characters.
